Claudia
Ordaz Perez.
Claudia is a lifelong El Pasoan who represents Texas’s House District 76 in El Paso County, which includes the Medical Center of the Americas, the Texas Tech Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail, the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Native American Tribe, and Fort Bliss. Claudia grew up in El Paso’s eastside and is a proud graduate of Montwood High School and UTEP.

Claudia’s family’s tradition of public service goes back decades. Her grandfather served in World War II and her uncles served in Vietnam. Her uncles taught her there is no greater reward than to serve our country and community. As a proud graduate of local public schools and the University of Texas at El Paso, she took the same pride of service and served at the local, state, and federal levels of government serving the El Paso community through public service and volunteerism.
She is the former Mayor Pro Tempore and City Councilwoman for the City of El Paso, where she was a fierce advocate for working parents and family caregivers. She was successful in creating local policies impacting living wages for workers, local park enhancements for children, funding for new infrastructure for municipal police and fire departments, local animal shelter improvements, and promoting investment opportunities to expand job growth in the Borderplex region.
Claudia was first elected to the El Paso City Council in a special election in 2014, becoming the youngest elected official in El Paso County and resulting in the first-ever majority by female representatives on the Council. She was re-elected in 2015 and 2018 with over 72 percent of the vote.
In 2014 she was recognized in The City Magazine’s Top 30 under 30 issue and the Junior League of El Paso as the “Member of the Year.” In 2020, she served as Co-Chair of the Paso del Norte Complete Count Census Committee. She currently serves on the Transportation Policy Board of the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Prior to her public service in the City of El Paso, Ordaz Perez served as a legislative staffer and communications director in the Texas Senate during the 81st legislative session. She also served as Press Secretary in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Claudia is a proud graduate of local public schools and the University of Texas at El Paso, where she served as President of the University Democrats. She is married to Vincent Perez, who served as County Commissioner for El Paso County. Claudia and Vince live in El Paso’s Mission Valley with their dogs Jack, Lady, and Whiskey and are active in the Lector Ministry at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
